Day 11 - Ipoh

It was another big day touring today. We went with John again and he took us to old town Ipoh first which had all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies. The old buildings covered in vines were very beautiful. We went to the tea museum which showed the journey of a man from China to Malaysia to create a herbal tea empire. It didn't taste very good 😝
We then went to visit some temples built in caves which were very beautiful and unique. One temple was inside a small open space surrounded by rocky mountains and the only way to get there was through a cave, it was very serene. Lunch was at a local restaurant and it was one of the best meals we've had.
The next stop was Kelly's Castle which was odd to see in Malaysia. It was being built by a Scottish man in early 1900's but he died before it was completed and it was left to ruin until WW2 when it was bombed by Japan who then took over the castle and supposedly tortured people in the cellar underground so they believe it is haunted. This is the kind of historical stuff I like 😉 After that we went to a pomelo farm which wasn't much fun cos we got smashed by mosquitoes.
We finally checked in to our hotel, Lost World Hotel, at 5pm and chilled down. The had dinner at maccas tonight and we had dinner at a little restaurant down the road. On the walk back we stopped into the giant supermarket and bought some snacks and beer. I love looking at all the different foods in supermarkets around the world, you'll never know what you'll find! 🙂
